BIO

Byers holds a MFA from the MCAD and a B.A. from St. Olaf College. She is currently Professor and Chair of the Art and Art History at Gustavus. Betsy has exhibited at the National Gallery of Scotland, MN Museum of Art, DeVos Museum, University of Connecticut, Guilford Art Center, The Soap Factory, Burnet Gallery, Augsburg College, and University of MN Morris.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint to discover and imagine our intimate relationship with the environment in an abstract form. The work births from potent encounters of the body in space. Interweaving the psyche and materiality of paint, I search for reciprocity between the boundaries of real and imagined; intimacy and immensity; self and other.
